3D Printed Mold Composites Project

3D Printed Molds Composites Project

CaptureSam Bartell is spearheading this exciting project.

We are collaborating with the Triton Racing FSAE team (sae.eng.ucsd.edu) to build a mold and fabricate one of their intake components for their race car. We will be supplied with the carbon fiber and resin and will be doing experimentation to perfect our fabrication method. Using 3d printed plastic parts for a composites mold is not a new idea, but we have been unable to find sufficient documentation of the procedures elsewhere so we are going to invent them ourselves. Mr. Bartell is very knowledgeable in the fabrication and design of composite parts and is looking forward to this new and innovative way of making composite parts. We are currently exploring many options on how to go about this project and what our layup schedule will look like.

Currently we have a couple 3D Printable designs for the mold and are going to start printing our favorite piece.
